 Jim Mahannah

The Jim Mahannah Band has been performing in the Mid-South area for over 20 years. Audiences from around the corner and around the  world have enjoyed this band....listening and dancing to their extensive and varied repertoire.  The band is comfortable with most musical genre  and specializes in the Big Band Swing of the 40's, the Rock & Soul of the 50's and 60's and even the standards of the romantic Ballroom Era.  Their musical ability also includes many other styles of music ....Blues, Jazz, Motown, Dixieland, Latin, Ethnic.....and so much more.  Because of Jim’s ability to play up to ten different instruments (sometimes two at a time) and the variety of vocal styles, this quartet’s sound is often compared to that of much larger bands. The Jim Mahannah Band’s versatility makes them a perfect choice for events such as employee appreciation parties, corporate events, weddings, anniversaries, reunions and of course, Holiday Extravaganzas.

George Winter Band

We have had a band for over 40 years. Most of our band members have degrees in music, as I do. I write most of the charts we play, so the horn players can always play the songs the same way, and have good harmony, especially when we have our trombone player along. I have been associated with ballroom dancing in Alabama for many years. I founded the Tuscaloosa Ballroom Dance Club sixteen years ago, and helped start the Birmingham Chapter of USA Dance thirteen years ago. Our Ballroom Dance Band, plays for 17 dance clubs in Alabama, Mississippi, Tennessee and Georgia. Being a ballroom dancer (Fred Astaire, Tuscaloosa), my songs are never too long, always played at the proper tempo, and my selection includes a good proportion of Latin songs. At the dances I distribute printed programs with song titles, dance styles and durations.

Jimmy was born in Memphis in 1937. He started playing clarinet and Sax in Junior High and in Senior High was playing lead and steel guitar but he ended up playing drums in his late teens and early 20's. He played with almost every dance band in Memphis in the old hotels such as, the Peabody, King Cotton, Claridge, Gayoso and was also the drummer at the Sixteen Hundred Club for five years and the Sultan club for over a year. But after his regular gigs, he could all ways we seen late at night at the Sharecropper (A jazz hangout).

In 1974 he pursed another career by opening Air Trans Records (ATR), and Sulyn publishing company, BMI. ATR recorded everyone from new artist to well known artist. It had a 24 track digital studio with computer editing and was the second studio in Memphis to do CD Mastering. In 1992 it branched to Video, this expansion allowed jimmy to produce commercials and music videos.

Jimmy took up the keyboard in late 80's. He attended Memphis State University to hone his skills. This allowed him to produce inexpensive music demos, which he still does. Jimmy remained in the recording business for 30 years.

In the last few years Jimmy has taken his keyboards on the road and plays local parties and dances.
